MAIN SEWER

Main Sewer (45-90 mins) starting at $225, after 100ft add $1/foot
Camera Add-on: $125

If your main sewer line going out to the street gets plugged, nothing will flow from your house to the city drain. Typically, your basement drains will be the first to show signs of backup. The average Winnipeg home has a sewer line roughly 65-85ft. It is common to have longer lines depending on the location of the city sewer, and where your house is set on the property. When the main sewer plugs, the most experienced problem is tree roots. The equipment to be used is specifically designed to cut through and clear any root penetration into the pipe. To get the most efficient cleaning, access to the main cleanout is crucial. City code requires each house to have one within 3 meters of exiting the building.

Size of cable to be used: 11/16”

LINE UNDER FLOOR (inside house)

Line Under The House | Sewer Specialist

Line under floor (30-60 mins) starting at $150-$200

If you have a blockage in the main pipe under the basement floor, you will have similar symptoms to your main sewer being plugged. The main difference is, your line to the street is not the problem, and the main cleanout at the front of your house will be empty. This means the job needs to be done from either a cleanout on a stack or a basement toilet should be removed and a cable can be run from there, depending on what is affected. The issue could be anything from tree roots, to just too much toilet paper.

Size of cable to be used: ½” or 11/16”

KITCHEN SINK

TIME: 20-60 MINS
PRICE: $150-$200

Does your double compartment sink back up on one side while draining the other? Or does your single compartment sink take longer and longer to drain? Do you even remember what a “fast draining” sink looks and sounds like? Gradually over time, a layer of sludge and scum lines the inside of your pipe, restricting flow, slowing the drain more and more. This process happens a lot quicker if you have a garburator. No matter how “top of the line” the unit is, those tiny (or large) food particles can get stuck in the sludge along the way. Even without a garburator, no matter how careful you are, your sink will one day slow down. Oils and grease from cooking or just residue left behind from soaps used can eventually build up in the pipe causing an issue.

Size of cable use: ¼”, 3/8” or ½” depending on access

BATHROOM SINK

TIME: 15-45 MINS
PRICE: $125-$150

As with the kitchen sink, residue from soaps will line your pipe with sludge. Your morning and nighttime hygiene rituals are all contributing factors affecting the flow of your drain. Shaving over the sink can put a lot of tiny hairs down the drain as well. This drain cleaning process typically brings back a lot of black sludge filled wads of hair. A bad enough blockage in the stack could block off the vent and cause the tub to gurgle when the toilet is flushed.

Size of cable to be used: ¼”

BATHTUB/SHOWER

TIME: 15-45 MINS
PRICE: $125

Are you standing in water during your shower? Does it take forever to drain your bath? Chances are, it is a hair build up. Oils from our body and residue from the soaps and shampoos work together to line the pipe and catch the hair. If it is a tub, 9 times out of 10, running a ¼” cable through the overflow is the most efficient route to work. If it is a shower, most likely the cable is just run through the top of the drain.

Size of cable to be used: ¼”

TOILET AUGER

TIME: 5-30 MINS
PRICE: $100-$125

TOILET REMOVE/REPLACE: $25

The most common reason for a toilet to plug is too much paper being used, mixed with a large bowel movement. Usually, a toilet auger (toilet snake) will punch through and clear it up. The brand of toilet paper you use DOES make a difference. Without naming names, 3 ply paper is given the nickname “the toilet plugger.” If an object has gone down the toilet, removing the toilet is the next step. If it is a toy in the toilet, using the auger from the bottom to push it back out the top works with a high success rate. If the blockage is under the floor, now a cable can be used to snake it out with the toilet off.

Size of cable to be used: Toilet auger
Size of cable to be used beyond toilet: ½” or 11/16”

FLOOR DRAIN

TIME: 15-45 MINS
PRICE: $150

If your floor drain starts backing up, it can be for several reasons. The most common backup happens because:

  1. The main sewer is plugged.
  2. The line under floor is plugged, or
  3. The floor drain branch line is just plugged locally.

The first 2 options, the remedy to clear would be snaking from a cleanout access. If it is the third option, most times a cable needs to be run through the floor drain itself. The blockage could consist of roots, a shifted pipe, sludge or just decades of build-up.

Size of cable to be used: ¼”, 3/8” or ½”

CAMERA INSPECTION/LINE LOCATE

TIME: 20-60 MINS
PRICE: $225

Shifting or collapsing sewer and drainage pipes are a common occurrence in Winnipeg. These are usually detected when cleaning the main sewer or any other drain under the floor. Clay will come back on the blade or cable. Sometimes, clay is not present, and the cable/blades just can’t pass a specific point. Sending the camera down offers an insight to what is happening inside the pipe. HD video quality gives a detailed look at the condition and potential issues with the drain. Pairing that with the camera locator, gives an overall scope of where exactly the issue is and how bad it is.

Usually, a plumber or contractor needs to know where the plumbing runs under the floor when installing new drainage, the camera and line locating service provides them with this information. Sometimes cleanouts get covered and need to be located in order to clean the pipes efficiently. Also, inspecting and locating weeping tile is a popular service when trying to figure out why your basement walls/floor leak. Foundation companies usually recommend a camera inspection and location of the tiles before taking the next step.

A USB drive can be provided on site for an additional $10.00 when necessary.
